Shoe color
Question: Have you ever heard the saying "your shoes should match the hem of your dress?" I think when casually dressed your shoes should match your outfit. Which is correct?

Answer: I’ve heard the saying but it is not always the best choice and it is often challenging to accomplish. The better rule of thumb is that your shoes should be as dark or darker than your hem color. (“Hem” being the color of your skirt, dress, or pants.). Using this rule, you will look more sophisticated, more well coordinated, and more fashion savvy. For example, you are wearing a pale yellow dress. With this rule, you still have the option of wearing matching yellow shoes, but you also have the option of wearing a darker shoe, such as dark yellow, gold, camel, brown, black, etc.
Whites are popular in the summer months, but white shoes are risky. Except for white sandals, white shoes always catch the eye first, becoming the first thing you notice about a person. Even when wearing an all-white outfit, the better choice is a metallic, either light pewter or light gold shoes. Or if the outfit was ultra casual, tortoise shell, camel, and black-and-white colored sandals could all look great. For a more tailored white outfit, spectator pumps (white shoes with a black or camel toe) can look superb.
You are correct that your shoes should coordinate with your outfit.
