I think the system should allow at least 2-3 speakers talking at same
time, so that people can switch talking/interrupt another person naturally.
Otherwise, the switchover is just too clumsy. (Yahoo's audio chatroom
is much better than other systems we tried so far.)
One easy way is to pick the 3 users with highest volume, and mix them
together. This maybe not that difficult. (At least don't have to mix
20 inputs when there are 20 people in the room.)
I talked to a person worked in multimedia company before. He said,
at least currently, approach 3 is used. (Well, if someone can mix
in compressed format, he can easily get many patents.)
He said echo is an issue when the system is connected to the
traditional analog phone and echo cames from analog phone 2-4 wire
place. (But I remembered when I tried netmeeting with people in China,
the echo was very bad. So in pure voip, there is still voip issue.)
So welcome more comments about echo.
